We created La Luna Productions in 1994 to produce SAKURA \u2013 THE BANDIT PRINCESS by Kikue Tashiro, starring Japanese American actress Kati Kuroda. Our purpose: expose this little gem of a East-West fusion play from its inception at Circle Repertory Company and move it out into the big world.<\/p>\n
And we did.<\/p>\n
Invitations poured in from the Edinburgh Fringe and Dallas International Festivals; University of Hawai’i,\u00a0University of Missouri \u2013 St. Louis, Muhlenberg College,\u00a0Chaminade University and regional theaters: TheaterLab Houston, Holualoa Performing Arts Center, Lee\/Leong Studio. Productions in these international venues resulted in rave reviews and enthusiastic audiences.<\/p>\n
Based on the success of SAKURA, the same creative team mounted HANA – THE BANDIT PRINCESS at NYC\u2019s Chelsea Playhouse after a successful reading at the New York Theater Workshop.<\/p>\n
Continuing the mission of fusing Japanese and Western Theater,\u00a0La Luna is in development of GHOST LIGHT, a new play by Carol Fisher Sorgenfrei. \u00a0With generous support from the UCLA Academic Senate Council on Research, we produced a series of four readings in NYC and LA. Audience feedback sessions provided invaluable insight into ways to clarify, intensify and deepen the the play.<\/p>\n
Now confident of the strong, fluid script, La Luna moves on to the\u00a0next stage: an Equity Showcase production of GHOST LIGHT at the Barrow Group Theater in NYC, October, 2015.<\/p>\n
